When traveling to Morocco, it is important to find out if you need vaccinations for Morocco and the identity documents and formalities that are necessary to be able to enter Moroccan territory. Indeed, travelers will have to go through Moroccan customs before they can fully enjoy their stay. If you have the right documents, this formality is quite fast. However, if the formalities for Morocco are not fulfilled, you may be refused access to Moroccan territory. You might as well avoid this inconvenience and prepare your holidays serenely in a riad in Marrakech or in another Moroccan city!
The formalities for Morocco: passport or simple identity card?
Since 18 June 2015, all foreign nationals must present a valid passport in order to enter Moroccan territory. A simple identity card is not enough. Depending on your nationality, a visa may also be required. European nationals are exempt from this requirement. They only need to present their passports. The customs officer will then apply a stamp with the date of entry into the country, the starting point for the 3-month tourist visa.
A small information sheet should also be provided to the customs officer. Some airlines distribute them during the flight, before landing. These sheets are also available at the entrance of the customs zone in Moroccan airports. A certain amount of information is requested, including the place where travelers will be accommodated during their stay. It is often the case that the customs officer requests oral confirmation of the place you will be staying. All requested information must be completed.
Other documents that are recommended to be taken during a stay in Marrakech
The passport is the only document required to enter Moroccan territory (as well as a visa for certain foreign nationals). There are no other formalities for Morocco. However, as with any trip abroad, it is generally advisable to bring other documents with you.
So, if you want to rent a car on-site, you will need to have your driver’s license. The French license allows you to drive in Morocco during a tourist stay.
If you are traveling with children, it is recommended to bring their health booklet and family booklet (or at least a copy) with you.
If you have a mutual insurance company that covers medical expenses abroad, do not forget your certificate so that you can benefit from its advantages in the event of illness or hospitalization on site.
